Alternate 4th Edition cards have a thicker stock and a glossy overcoat on the back. Unlike normal cards, they do not glow under blacklight. They do not have the normal dot design on the back. Every 4th Edition card can be found as Alternate 4th Edition.

Wizards has used Cartamundi as their card printer since Alpha. For some undocumented reason, during the production of 4th Edition, the company experimented with using the Cincinnati, Ohio-based United States Playing Card Corporation. While these cards were not intended to be released, some starter packs were leaked out into public circulation.
